Project #34 - Santa Ornaments

Mark Brown October 13, 2022

For last years Sutton Chain of Lights Festival I whittled a bunch of Santa figures and even did a demonstration on the day of the event. Despite being initially nervous about the whole thing, it was great fun talking about whittling with all the folks that passed through and am looking forward to doing it again this year!

In preparation I have stated to think about what I would concentrate on this year. If you have seen any of my previous posts you know I am a fan of the Scandinavian Flat Plane carving style. When I ran across an article in an old “Whittling” magazine on Santa Ornaments by John Overby, I thought what a great way to work on improving both my face carving and general flat plane skills.

These are the ones I have whittled to date. All are traditional “one knife” carves and are ready for cleanup and paint. Not sure if this will be this years demo subject yet, but they are fun to carve!!
